While women are making great strides despite all the opportunities, society still has a long way to go when it comes to women’s confidence in leadership roles. According to a study by McKinsey and Company, women progress from entry-level positions to the C-suite much more slowly than their male counterparts. In fact, women make up only about 24 percent of C-suite leaders, compared to about 76 percent for men.

While the lack of female leadership representation remains the same, organizations are adapting to a changing market with constantly emerging digital tools. Where business leadership used to rely on leadership to make its own decisions after looking at facts and figures, they employ data departments to make the numbers work for them.

An Overview of Emory’s Women in Leadership Certificate Program

The no-certificate program is designed for women in leadership roles who want to advance to the next level of business leadership, even at the C-suite level. This program can help women develop an innovative, resilient and collaborative culture, while helping them learn the skills they need to advocate on behalf of themselves and the teams they lead.

The program is also encouraged for men who want to understand the challenges faced by women leaders in the corporate world. Men who are more aware of the barriers female leaders face in their journey can be ready to stand up for their peers when needed. This program does not teach men to stand up for women by taking away their agency, but instead teaches ways to provide critical support when times get tough.

With an intensive curriculum and talented instructors from one of the nation’s top universities, leaders learn to maximize their strengths and drive transformation through innovation and resilience.

This six-week Women in Leadership program consists of six one-week modules. A new subject matter expert teaches in each of the first five modules, while the sixth module includes a panel discussion with industry experts. This allows students to gather insights and learn from the personal experiences of other successful women leaders.

  • Module 1: Growing a Culture of Innovation – Practice innovative strategies, learn how to cultivate innovation and reflect on positive experiences while thinking about how to build your perfect innovation culture. This module is taught by Quinn O’Briant, MFA, MLA, a public speaker and expert in creativity and innovation.
  • Module 2: Innovating in different cultures – Soumaya Khalifa, MBA, President and CEO of Khalifa Consulting teaches the second part of the program, where students learn about the impact culture has on a company’s success in the marketplace and in the workplace, along with its effect on the world.
  • Module 3: Encouraging Engagement – Nancy Green, MBA, performance strategist and owner of iinteg Inc. learns how to encourage engagement. Learn practical tools and ways to get you and your team more engaged.
  • Module 4: Leading with Resilience – Learn about the qualities that create resilient leaders and how resilient leaders influence their teams and culture. Katie Karppala, MSOL, PCC, BCC and founder of Authentic Dimensions Consulting leads this module.
  • Module 5: Advocating for yourself – The fifth module takes a closer look at the topics presented above, with a focus on self-advocacy. Led by career transformation and self-help expert Sarah D. Carlson, you’ll learn how to identify and articulate your professional strengths, interests, and values ​​to enhance your career potential.
  • Module 6: Panel discussion with industry experts – The final module is a two-hour live discussion panel of industry experts who hold leadership positions in large companies. Students will have the chance to interact with these experts in real time and hear insights, personal experiences and opinions that you can apply to your career.
